Man, woman arrested at Arizona border for drugs

Updated:

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an Arizona man and a Mexican woman have been arrested at the Port of Nogales for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred a 23-year-old Nogales man for further inspection at the Dennis DeConcini Port.

During the search of the man's SUV, officers say they found 10 cocaine packages inside the interior back wall of the cab.

Authorities say the drugs weighed nearly 26 pounds and had a value of $233,000.

A few hours later Wednesday, a 22-year-old woman from Sonora, Mexico, was referred for further inspection.

CBP officers say nearly 13 pounds of heroin - worth more than $198,000 - was found under the backseat of the woman's sedan.

The drugs and vehicles were seized. The names of the suspects weren't released.
