There is more than just fireworks to check out this holiday weekend around metro Detroit.

311, Cypress Hill and G. Love and Special Sauce headline this year's 89X Birthday Bash. It's at DTE Energy Music Theatre on Sunday night. The party begins at 6:30.

Celebrate our country's independence at the 21st Annual Salute to America. Geenfield Village and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra team up for an amazing fireworks display complete with live patriotic music Friday and Saturday night. Children under four are free.

Catch gospel music great Vickie Winans at Bishop Ellis' Birthday Block Party. It's at the Greater Grace Temple this Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m. There will be food, live music, carnival rides, a petting zoo, a classic car show, and it's free for the whole family.

Mike Ellison is just one of the many acts headlining the 21st Concert of Colors. You'll find free concerts all weekend long  at Detroit's New Center Park, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History, the DIA and the Max M. Fisher Music Center.

A smash hit about a beloved figure from metro Detroit sports history has been extended once again. Mitch Albom's "Ernie" at Detroit's City Theatre will run for five more weeks in August.

Matchbox 20 teams up with the Goo Goo Dolls for a special summer tour. You can catch both headliners at DTE Energy Music Theatre Saturday Night.
