Crews contain blaze in southern Arizona

Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A wildfire that charred more than a square mile of rugged territory along the U.S.-Mexico border has been fully contained.

Officials with the Coronado National Forest in southern Arizona say the W-2 Fire burned about 530 acres of brush and oak trees on the U.S. side of the border and another 200 acres south of the boundary since being sparked last week.

Drops of fire retardant from air tankers helped to slow the spread of the blaze. No structures were damaged.

The fire will continue to be monitored by Sierra Vista District firefighters.

Forest officials say lightning continues to ignite fires in the area and crews are working to make sure none of those fires grow.
