PHOENIX -

A valley grocery store is holding a special fundraiser this weekend helping to protect Phoenix K-9 officers.

Fry's Grocery Store is partnering with PlayWirx, raising money to buy 2 canine ballistic vests for the Phoenix K-9 unit.

A raffle will be held this Saturday at the Fry's near Ray Road and Ranch Circle.

People will have a chance to win a specially painted dog house and gift cards worth $100.

"We use these canine partners with us to help protect the officers that are out there serving the public and we want to give them the opportunity to be able to be as safe and successful as we can, give the officers the added protection," said K-9 Supervisor Sgt. Rich Maiocco.

The raffle will be held from this Saturday until August 3 when they pull the winning ticket. You can purchase a raffle ticket for $5.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
