Atlanta police are putting the finishing touches on a security plan for the Peachtree Road Race.

Got big plans for the Fourth of July?  Whether you're running the Peachtree Road Race or heading out to watch fireworks, MARTA says they're ready to make sure you get there without all the hassle.

To accommodate those going to the Peachtree Road Race, MARTA will open at 4:45 a.m. Thursday.  They'll offer special pricing, and remain open until 1 a.m. on Friday.

One-way trips will cost only $2.50 with the purchase of a $1 breeze card. Due to the large crowds that are expected, customers are advised to purchase a round-trip fare at the beginning of their trip to avoid long lines on their return.

MARTA's special rail schedule will offer 10-minute service times, with additional 5-minute headways between the Lindbergh and Airport stations.

Peachtree Road Race runners:
Take the Gold Line train to Lenox station or the Red Line train to Buckhead Station for the start of the race. Shuttle buses will also be available at Lindbergh Center Station before the race to transport runners close to the starting line, and at Midtown station after the race to bring participants back to Lindbergh Center station.

Parking:
Parking is free for less than 24 hours at MARTA stations. Customers parking in the decks at Lindbergh station must park in MARTA designated areas and validate their parking ticket at machines inside the station in order to receive free daily parking. Pay attention to which lot you are parking in because some designated lots charge a fee. This includes lots at Lenox, Brookhaven, Kensington, and College Park Stations.

Bus route changes:

Some of MARTA's bus routes will be re-routed for the Peachtree Road Race and other scheduled events. MARTA will operate a Sunday bus schedule on Thursday. On Friday, MARTA will operate a regular weekday schedule on bus and rail.

Paper Breeze ticket sales:
In addition to the permanent breeze pass cards, MARTA will sell temporary paper tickets at various times and locations. Tickets can be purchased with cash-only and change will be provided. Here are the times and locations MARTA will sell the temporary tickets:

From 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., round-trip tickets will be sold at Dunwoody, Doraville, Chamblee and College Park stations.

From 5:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., round-trip tickets will be sold at North Springs and Sandy Springs stations while supplies last.

From 4:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., one-way tickets will be sold at Midtown station and from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m., one-way tickets will be sold at Arts Center station.

Extra security:
The MARTA Police Department is working hand-in-hand with local, state and federal partners to provide a safe and secure July 4th. Extra police officers and MARTA staff will be on-hand to help provide assistance and safety to all patrons.
