More Crashes at Dangerous Lawndale Intersection

Posted: Updated:
LAWNDALE -

Residents in Philadelphia's Lawndale section are fed up with another round of vehicle crashes at the intersection of Tookany Creek Parkway and Cheltenham Avenue.

Two separate accidents took place Saturday, including one that happened while FOX29 was on location taping a story.

A crew was reporting on a car that slammed into the back of Trifrena Jones'Chrysler Town and Country minivan as six vehicles got into a chain reaction bang up, injuring at least one person.

"This happens all the time," Jones said.

"We need some kind of cameras," said another neighbor.

These accidents come just weeks after a driver charged with DUI left the parkway and careened into at least five properties including a brick wall and several patios.

Residents are demanding action and say they have contacted several city officials.  FOX29 placed another round of calls into Philadelphia City Council and the city's Streets Department to see what is being done to make the area safer.

We will continue to update this story as it develops.

When Denis Belliveau is teaching kids about Marco Polo, he is in his element. He makes the explorer's journey come alive by taking students on a No. 7 train ride through Queens, New York's most diverse borough. He brings history alive for his students. Along the way the students stop in neighborhoods that mirror Polo's trip. I caught up with the class in Flushing, Queens, which easily resembles China.
