Romeoville police find 2,500 pounds of marijuana, $14K in cash in home

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police conducting a drug investigation in southwest suburban Romeoville last Friday found approximately 2,500 pounds of marijuana, more than $14,000 in cash and a stolen handgun.

Police made their find while conducting the investigation at home in the 700 block of Rogers, a release from Romeoville police said.

During the search, officers located 110 bundles of marijuana in the garage. Each bundle weighed approximately 25 pounds apiece, the release said. They also found a stolen .357 caliber revolver and $14,200 in cash.

Police said the marijuana has a street value of approximately $2,750,000.

Carlos A. Nieto, 38, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and possession of a stolen firearm.

The case remains under investigation, police said.
