Police: Woman with 2 kids carjacks vehicle in Marietta

MARIETTA, Ga. -

Police say a woman with two young children carjacked a pickup truck from a Chevron gas station in Marietta.

Nicole Evans is expected to make her first court appearance at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Just the day before, authorities say Evans first tried to carjack a cab driver near the South Marietta Parkway loop.

Cab driver Danny Kim says it started like a normal fare at the bus depot in Cobb County. But, as he was putting the stroller in the trunk of his taxi, Evans jumped in the driver's seat and tried to take off with his van.

"She was like, 'I got to go, I got to go. Let me go, let me go.' I put my hand right there. I tried to get the keys," said Kim.

Kim says he struggled with Evans until another cab driver jumped in the car to help wrestle the keys away from her.

"My friend was blocking the door. She jumped through the window and then took off," he said.

Evans had the two young children in tow, the cab driver said.

"She was dragging them like bags of stuff," he said.

Evans then went across the street to a gas station and jumped in a man's Ford F-150 pickup truck while its owner was inside the store.

"[The truck's owner] came running out after her and he hanged on the truck," said Praven Patel, who witnessed the incident. "She just kept going."

The carjacking victim fell off the truck as Evans headed out of the parking lot.

She left the stroller behind, but police are searching her, the truck and the two small children.

"It was scary and the police need to find her before the kids get hurt," said Kim.

Police say they used GPS to locate the stolen truck on Interstate 20 in Carroll County late Tuesday. Authorities were able to arrest Evans after a chase.  During the pursuit, she allegedly hit a Bremen police cruiser.

Evans remains at Carroll County Jail.

The two children were said to be OK and are being returned to their father in Roswell, police said.
