DETROIT (WJBK) -

Police Chief Chester Logan says there is no evidence of shots fired during the international fireworks show in downtown Detroit Monday night despite eyewitness accounts that led hundreds of people to flee Hart Plaza.

"As far as we know, there wasn't a shooting," Logan tells Fox 2 reporter Roop Raj.

Police did say at least one injury was reported when part of the crowd watching the display over the Detroit River fled Monday night, about 10 minutes into the 55th Annual Ford Fireworks Presented by Target event.

At about 10:15 p.m., Fox 2 reporter Erika Erickson said she saw hundreds of people running away from Hart Plaza near Woodward and Jefferson screaming that somebody was shooting.

Witnesses said they heard two shots fired between Griswold and Woodward on Jefferson.

Logan says he walked the area last night and saw no evidence of these shootings.

Police sources, however, tell Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff there were six non-fatal shootings in the city Monday, including a 12-year-old who was shot during an argument near Owen and Woodward in the city's Boston-Edison neighborhood. None of these reported shootings occurred in or near Hart Plaza.

Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the city and across the river in Windsor, Ontario, to view the fireworks.

The show celebrates the July 4 U.S. Independence Day and Canada Day on July 1.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
