Blood Donor Honored For Giving 8 Gallons Of Blood

TEXAS -

A Texas man is being honored for his dedication to saving lives.

For almost 30 years, Marcos Perez III has been donating his blood.

His donations of an estimated 80 gallons of blood have saved nearly 2,000 lives in that time.

Perez explained that he needed a blood transfusion when he was a baby, and all it took was one person to save his life.

"My dad thought he had a lot of friends, and only one guy stepped up to the plate. And his name was Tony Aguilar. And if he's out there, I'd like to thank him," Perez said.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center honored Perez Thursday for making his 640th donation.

"The benefits you get from donating blood, you're going to feel really great, especially since every donation can save up to three lives," said the STBTC's Eric Maldonado.
