OC Caregiver Accused of Sexually Assaulting a Patient

Posted: Updated:

62-year-old Robert Ligayo is accused of sexually assaulting a disabled senior for the past six months, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Several of Ligayo's emotional family members were in court showing their support, as Ligayo entered a not guilty plea.  Several family members told FOX11 thye believe Licayo is innocent.  "Yes, we're godly we're a godly family," said Victoria Ligayo, the suspect's wife.

"He's a good dad, we support him, we really support him," said Maria Ligayo, the suspect's daughter.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department arrested Ligayo Monday, after getting a report from a 66-year-old woman from Laguna Woods.  The woman told investigators Ligayo has been sexually assaulting her ever since he began providing in-home care.  The Sheriff's Department says the victim is wheel chair bound and is often bed ridden.

"He would go to her house 3 days a week to assist and to bathe.  And it was during the course of these incidents that he assaulted her," said Lt. Mike Gavin.

Ligayo was charged with elder abuse and sexual assault.  The OC Sheriff's Department says Ligayo has been a licensed caregiver for the past 6 years and doesn't have any prior complaints or criminal history.

Ligayo's family says they're stunned by the allegations, describing Ligayo as a family man who has a close relationship with his wife, six kids and grand kids.

"He goes to church every sunday. He makes a point to go to church every sunday.  He's a good dad," said Maria Ligayo.

Ligayo was held on $100,000 bail and is expected in court again next week.  If convicted of the current charges he could face up to eight years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.  The Sheriff's Department is investigating whether there are any other victims.

"A mixed bag": That's how the Straphangers Campaign characterizes New York City subways; some good parts and some bad. For example, the C train breaks down most often, not surprising since the line has 50-year-old cars. But C trains were also the cleanest in the transit system.Straphangers said the worst subway trains were the IRT's No. 2.
