Chamblee City Council delays rezoning vote, seeks to fire city manager

Posted: Updated:
CHAMBLEE, Ga. -

The City Council of Chamblee has delayed a controversial land rezoning variance. The Council also issued a preliminary resolution saying that they wanted to fire their own manager.

The controversy revolves around Councilmember Tom Hogan's request to subdivide his home and the house next door into three smaller lots with bigger homes facing a different direction.

Dozens of neighbors signed petitions saying they were against the variance, and 10 people filed ethics complaints against Hogan.

The city planning department recommended denial. Despite the opposition, Hogan's fellow council members approved his zoning request. Hogan recused himself.

But that vote was later thrown out because of procedural mistakes.

After listening to the pros and cons of the project, Councilmember Mark Wedge made a motion on Tuesday  to delay the vote until all the ethics issues can be resolved. The council agreed by a 3-1 vote.

The Council then went into executive session and announced that they're taking steps to fire City Manager Dr. Niles Ford. They said that they've lost confidence and a sense of leadership.

Ford has been placed on administrative leave and can file an appeal.

We already know about some of the fees our banks charge -- the monthly fee, the overdraft charge, out-of-network and minimum balance fees. That's standard stuff. But did you know that the average checking account has 30 fees attached?
