Tyler Perry donates $50K to man paralyzed in creek rescue

ATLANTA -

Tyler Perry is donating $50,000 to help a good Samaritan left paralyzed from the waist down after risking his life to save a young girl swept away by a creek.

Michael Patterson, 43, broke his neck in three places and severed his spine after diving into a creek at the Silver Comet Trail to save a 4-year-old girl.

Patterson's heroic story has attracted attention worldwide. A Facebook page maintained by family, Friends of Mike Patterson, has attracted more than 47,000 followers.

The family thanked Perry on its Facebook page for his generous donation.

    A Long Island family is upset that a cruise line won't accommodate them after their five-year-old son had to have emergency surgery for cancer.  Nicolas Colucci and the rest of his family was supposed to go on a cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway on June 1, 2014.  On May 19 he ended up having to have surgery on his liver, gallbladder, diaphragm and lymph nodes after doctors found out he had a large cancerous tumor growing inside of his liver.
