PHOENIX -

Monday, a homeless man pleaded not guilty to breaking into a home, threatening a woman with a hatchet and attempted sexual assault.

19-year-old Francisco Moreno entered a not guilty plea Monday morning. His next court date is July 30.

Police say Moreno broke into a home near McQueen and Chandler Boulevard armed with a hatchet on June 1.

The victim told police she woke up to find the suspect trying to take off her clothes.

The woman fought back and that's when investigators say Moreno got spooked -- he stole the victim's cell phone and took off from the scene.

Moreno was later arrested and admitted to the crime. He faces charges of burglary, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and preventing the use of a telephone in an emergency.
