ATLANTA -

Around 44,000 Georgia Power customers statewide were without electricity late Friday afternoon. About 30,000 of those were in the metro Atlanta area.

Utility and local work crews worked through the night and into the afternoon to clear downed trees and snapped power lines from roads through Northeast Georgia after a sizeable line of storms whipped through the area in the late Thursday and early Friday hours.

National Weather Service forecasters say falling trees left two people with non-life threatening injuries in Canton.

Many locations may be on delayed openings or closed altogether Friday, so be sure to call ahead if you're traveling to areas known to not have power.

Georgia Perimeter College's Dunwoody campus was closed on Friday because of power outages and storm damage.

EMC Georgia reports about 3,600 of its customers, also in the metro area, did not have electricity in the morning.

Also, due to power outages all classes and operations at Kennesaw State University are canceled Friday. They will reopen as usual on Monday.
