Home Delivery Service Making A Comeback

Something from the nostalgic ‘50s and ‘60s is returning to Los Angeles. With memories of the milk man leaving bottles or the Helms Bakery Truck whistle signaling fresh bread, this week Amazon.com began a grocery home  delivery service in LA.

Clearly the world's biggest retailer thinks there is profit to be made here by returning convenience and actual personal service to how we buy. But that's something two small local companies could have told Amazon a year ago.

Janeen Gudelj started making gourmet donuts but didn't have the time to run a store front, so she delivered them. Today, The Donut Snob has two kitchen locations in Southern California with more than a dozen trucks zigzagging throughout LA and Ventura.


Earlier this year Kathleen Bywater believed her raw juice recipes were better than anything in the store, so she started juicing for others and dropping bottles off at friends' homes. Within five months Revive Juicery has moved to a commercial kitchen and has its first delivery truck delivering juice to nearly 300 customers including eight gyms and workout studios.

    A police officer is being credited with rescuing a 3-year-old boy from the Erie Canal in central New York. Police in the Seneca County village of Waterloo tell local media that they were called to a home Wednesday afternoon by a neighbor who noticed the 3-year-old and his 4-year-old brother unattended in her backyard. When officers arrived, the boys' father had caught up with his 4-year-old son but the younger boy was nowhere to be seen.

    Lawyers say they are trying to resolve Shia LaBeouf's disorderly conduct case stemming from an incident at a Broadway show last month. Prosecutors and LaBeouf's lawyer told a judge Thursday that they're exploring an agreement to resolve the case. LaBeouf was arrested after he allegedly disrupted a performance of "Cabaret" starring Alan Cumming. He is due back in court Sept. 10.
