CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An Evanston man has been charged with firing gunshots Tuesday afternoon in the front yard of a residence across from Evanston Township High School.

Terrance J. Gunn, 21, a convicted felon from the 100 block of Custer Street in Evanston was charged with multiple firearms violations in the Tuesday shots fired incident in the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue in north suburba, according to Evanston police.

The shooting appeared to stem from a personal dispute with another individual, police told the Pioneer Press.

A second person, believed to be involved in the exchange of gunfire with Gunn, was also taken into custody, police said.

However, no charges were brought against that individual because of a lack of witnesses willing to come forward, Evanston police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

Police responded to the area about 4 p.m. Tuesday to a call of shots fired. Parrott said the police investigation indicated two individuals had a dispute in the front yard of a residence in the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue.

After an exchange of words, gunshots were fired. Gunn, who fled on foot, was intercepted by police already in the area and apprehended in possession of a .22 semi-automatic pistol in the 1700 block of Darrow Ave., Parrott said.

Police were able to recover several shell casings from the yard, which indicated a second weapon was used in the incident, Parrott said. Police were unable to locate a second weapon despite an extensive search of the area.

Gunn was charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon, a Class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, a Class 3 felony; and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID (Firearms Identification) card.

On Wednesday, Gunn was ordered held on $100,000 bond and booked into the Cook County Jail, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.

He is scheduled to appear June 27 at the Skokie Courthouse.
