New Red Light Camera At Dangerous Intersection

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A new red light camera is set up at a dangerous intersection, in Philadelphia's Somerton neighborhood.

The new site is at Byberry and Worthington Roads.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) and PennDOT picked this location after several deadly accidents happened here in the past.

There is a 45-day "grace period," but after July 24th, PPA will slap red-light runners with a one-hundred dollar fine.

The red-light cameras are just one part of making this intersection safer for all who use it. The improvements also include the installation of a new mast arm for the traffic signals (replacing the old type standalone traffic signals), new handicap ramps and new pedestrian countdown signals. Also, curb cuts were realigned and crosswalks were repainted.

These new cameras make the total number of red-light cameras in Philadelphia 111. The cameras are located at 25 different intersections.
