TAPE: SP-1986  DATE: 10/20/2000  SLUG: THERRELL-CHAMBLEE TIMECODE: 12:00

This is the week of young faces in the FOX 5 Sports bunker.  Our summer interns Katie and Michael have joined us, and former WAGA sports intern Samantha Power was just nominated to be U.S. ambassador to the UN by President Obama.

So I've decided that our "Throwback Thursday" will be dedicated to some other fresh faces that took center stage 13 years ago.  Back in 2000, we had a segment on our High 5 Friday night football broadcast called "Low 5 Sports."  The segment was the brain child of Buck Lanford and photographer Brad White.  It involved White going to a football game and finding a kid that was willing to become a pup reporter.

These videos are incredibly cute.  I have put three sets of highlights in the video at the top of the page.  The three children featured are Madeline at a Marist-North Springs game, Aaron reporting from Chamblee-Therrell, and Brody from Buford-Lincoln County.  Madeline will make you realize how tough it is to say "Marist" when you're missing a front tooth.

Madeline

Aaron is full of awesome catch phrases.  "Mama Mia" sticks out.

Aaron

Doing some research this week, I was able to locate Brody who went on to graduate from Buford, but I would love your help trying to find Madeline and Aaron, so we can see what they are up to these days.  Judging from their on-air presence, they may be interns at a TV station somewhere.

Brody

I asked Buck a little more about the segment and he told me that the signature "FOX 5 Sports" blazer in the video was purchased at Goodwill and his wife sewed our logo onto it.  The jacket makes the whole thing for me.

Funny side note: I was on the Chamblee team that gets trounced by "Super Mario" and Therrell in the second set of highlights.  My best friend Jason is the punter that misses the snap, that results in a second touchdown.  Jason (who now works at another TV station in town) says it is the single worst moment of his football career.  Glad I could share with the web.  Hope he still agrees to be in my wedding.

Our weekly Team of the Week pep rallies are now a staple of High 5 Sports, but they certainly are nothing new to WAGA.  This week's video is a Channel 5 pep rally from December 1982.
