Gulfport comes together after tornado

GULFPORT (FOX 13) -

The unique fragrance of cedar permeated the scene in Gulfport after a very large tree flew apart in the weather that Patti Jagisch witnessed.

"I've never felt my car ever lift like that off the ground, but you could actually feel it lift, and I thought, whoa," she recalled.

Jagisch was a couple of hundred feet away from Yummy's, which the cedar tree used to shade.

"I loved that tree," lamented restaurant owner Lori Luczak. "When I first came to Gulfport, I fell in love with Yummy's, probably because of that tree."

Within a couple of hours, a community cleanup blossomed where the cedar once stood. And in short order, the debris was gone.

But that was not the only damage. For several blocks, we saw lots of minor losses -- trees and limbs and utility sheds, one of which broke a car's windshield in the same assault that took out the cedar.

"It only lasted about four minutes, three minutes before it all came through."

But the worst damage was at Yummy's, which lost its front dining room. And, of course, its shady cedar.
