Fire Breaks Out During Barricade Situation In Philly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Police are reporting that a man is in custody after what was reported to be a barricade situation and arson Monday in the Cobbs Creek section of the city.

A SWAT unit and negotiator were called to the scene Monday morning near 62nd and Pine streets.

Sources tell FOX 29 News that a man who was inside the home apparently threatened to set it on fire and actually did so, resulting in major damage to the residence.

Three other homes were also evacuated, and officials had to shut off gas during the response.

FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito reported from the scene shortly before noon that the fire is out and SWAT removed the suspect within 45 minutes of the initial standoff.

The gas company remained at the scene, making sure everything was clear.
