Rain barrel sale happening Saturday in Bloomfield Township

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Made of 85 percent recycled material, rain barrels will be on sale for one day only at the Bloomfield Township municipal offices on Telegraph Road.

The sale will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The 60-gallon barrels will sell for $75. In past events, they sold out of 800 rain barrels in just three hours.

"People that have a city water system, they are saving a lot of money by harvesting the rain water and then just reusing it for their potted plants, hanging baskets, what not. So obviously they're saving money there, but the plants are thriving because it's rain water," said Chris Merucci, president of Great Lakes Rain Barrel.

A partnership between the Alliance of Rouge Communities, Bloomfield Township and Great Lakes Rain Barrel is making the event possible.
