TAPE: SP-0045  DATE: 03/12/89   SLUG: CAROLINA POSTGAME     TIMECODE: 00:05:20

This week's Throwback Thursday video is a testament to how much great content is in our archives.  To find this video, I simply walked up to a shelf and pulled the first tape I saw.

After scrolling past a couple of Hawks highlights, I came across our postgame coverage of the 1989 ACC basketball tournament final between UNC and Duke.

The first face we see is one of the WAGA Sports legends, Robin Roberts.  Some folks forget that before she was saying good morning to America and before ESPN, Roberts was at Channel 5.

But the fun doesn't stop with Robin's 80's hair and sweater.  After an interview with Kevin Madden, we see another familiar face.  It's Rick Fox-- long before he did the samba on national TV or won rings with Kobe.  He has aged very well, by the way.

Finally, we hear from a recognizable member the team that lost the 1989 ACC tournament final.  A young Danny Ferry, sporting a nice scratch and clearly distraught, talks about how physical the rivalry game was.  This week, Ferry was all smiles as he introduced new Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer.  Here's hoping Ferry will give us more of the happy press conferences and fewer like the one we see in this week's video in the years to come.

There is one other character that makes an appearance, and one that brings a smile to most of our faces.  Behind Robin Roberts, Rick Fox and Danny Ferry are those orange seats that uniquely belong to our old friend the Omni.  For me, it brings back a lot of memories of not just Hawks and college basketball, but also indoor soccer, the circus and ice skating.  Miss that place.

More fun to come next week!

Our weekly Team of the Week pep rallies are now a staple of High 5 Sports, but they certainly are nothing new to WAGA.  This week's video is a Channel 5 pep rally from December 1982.

Talk radio has blown up this week with criticism of Fredi Gonzalez for not bringing in Craig Kimbrel at the beginning of the 8th inning in game four against the Dodgers.
Talk radio has blown up this week with criticism of Fredi Gonzalez for not bringing in Craig Kimbrel at the beginning of the 8th inning in game four against the Dodgers.  It isn't the first time a Braves manager has been raked over the coals following a relief pitcher call that resulted in a go-ahead homer and a playoff loss.
