Bear In Tree Tranquilized, Captured In Delran

Posted: Updated:
DELRAN, N.J. -

In the early hours of Thursday morning, a black bear was spotted in Burlington County.

SkyFOX flew over the scene and, sure enough, up in a tree near Route 130 in Delran was a large black bear who sat, quietly, minding its own business.

Unfortunately, the bear was very close to houses and shopping centers.

Several authorities arrived at the scene, and the bear was tranquilized with a dart.

A net was placed under the bear as it slowly nodded off, lost its grip and eventually fell from the tree. Then, rescue crews began to work on it, checking its pulse and taking measurements.

A rather large and curious crowd gathered to take photos and chat about what just happened in this quiet backyard.

It seems that the surroundings were more threatening than the bear itself, according to onlookers.

"He could've been hit by a car," says a woman who was at the scene- being that the location of the bear was on one of the most dangerous roads in all of New Jersey.

Authorities have not said where they will release the bear.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley was at the scene and reported for several hours, following this dramatic capture and rescue.

We will update you on the bear's condition as soon as any information becomes available.

While a thousand people streamed into a courtyard at St. Lucy Parish in the Bronx to watch a reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ, next door a steady trickle of believers quietly collected water from that church's grotto, taking the liquid home to heal, cure, and bless.
