ELK RIVER, Minn. (KMSP) -

After two full days of searching for 2-year-old Daisy Jo Holland at the Wapiti Park campground in Elk River, police confirmed the active search ended at 2:34 p.m. on Sunday after the body of a child was recovered.

At a press conference held at 5 p.m., Elk River Police Chief Brad Rolfe said the body is similar to the description of Holland and it was clothed in a pink Hello Kitty shirt and black pants, similar to the outfit the girl was last seen wearing.

Earlier on Sunday, Rolfe announced that boat teams and divers from several agencies would help continue the search as investigators interviewed residents of the campground to follow any leads regarding Daisy's disappearance.

Dive team members found the body several hundred yards downstream, and it has since been taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office to be positively identified.

The medical examiner's office will also work to determine the cause of death, but investigators say there is no indication of foul play at this time.

The 2-year-old girl went missing from the campground, located at 18746 Troy Street in Elk River, Friday night. She was last seen playing near a creek at about 8 p.m.

"There were several kids playing in the immediate area while the parents were setting up the campsite," Rolfe explained. "At some point, they realized that Daisy was unaccounted for."

That creek feeds into the Elk River, which is 50 yards wide and 20 feet deep in some areas. Recent rains have intensified the current as well.

"It's mucky, so if you get your foot stuck in it, it will hold you in," said Kristi Waite. "It's a pretty shallow river. There are a lot of weeds in it though, so who knows."

Daisy, her mother, two other adults and five children were camping adjacent to the Elk River on the extreme northern edge of the campground.

Family members asked FOX 9 News to pass along their thanks to everyone who helped search for Daisy, adding that they are grateful for the prayers as well as for the generosity of those who brought food and supplies throughout the weekend.

Police responded to the Brooklyn Bridge where two whitewashed American flags were raised on Tuesday. It is not clear who raised the flags or why. The American flags that are normally up at the bridge appeared to have been removed. The white flags were placed on the stone supports that hold cables above the span. Several officers scaled the bridge and lowered one of the flags at about 11 a.m. and the second about 20 minutes later.
