Beach Report Card Released, LA Beaches - The Good And The Bad

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) Heal the Bay's annual beach report card is out... and it's good news/ bad news for Southern California. An analysis of water quality over the past year found more than 90% percent of SoCal beaches are above average when it comes to cleanliness- getting a grade of A's and B's. But there's an infamous list of the dirtiest beaches in California, with grades of F's... And in that top 10 are 2 in Orange County and 4 in Los Angeles County.

Here's the 2013 "Beach Bummers" list of the most polluted:

1. Avalon, Catalina Island - LA County

2. Cowell Beach, Santa Cruz - Santa Cruz County

3. Poche Beach - Orange County 4. Cabrillo Beach, harbor side - LA County

5. Malibu Pier - LA County

6. Marina Lagoon - San Mateo County

7. Doheny State Beach, Dana Point - Orange County

8. Redondo Beach Pier - LA County

9. Windsurfer Circle - San Francisco County

10. Tijuana River Mouth - San Diego County

Some of our local beaches did make the "Honor Roll". Among the A+ beaches: Hermosa Beach, Leo Carillo State Beach in Malibu, the Wedge in Newport Beach and Cabrillo Beach oceanside.

When he's not slaying three-headed beasts with his olive-wood club, Hercules carves out time for the little people. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson treated fans from the Harlem Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters NYC to an advance screening of his new film. I caught up with the larger-than-life action hero after the big surprise.

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
