Storms topple trees, leave thousands without power

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Wednesday evening's storms caused some damage and knocked out power to thousands of DTE Energy customers. Note: As of 6:45 a.m. Thursday, DTE Energy says only 1,200 customers remain without power.

Out of nowhere the wind picked up and boy was it wicked. It did not last very long, but it left a lasting impression.

"Our house is okay, thankfully, but my sisters were really scared," said Stephanie Mautz.

The wind toppled at least two trees, one in Dearborn Heights and another on Detroit's west side.

"We heard two loud snapping sounds," said Detroiter Arrlanda Alvin. "There was a loud ka boom."
