A Florida man ends up in the record books after he catches the biggest python ever captured in the state.

The python measured in at a whopping 18-feet, eight inches long.

The snake hunter,  Jason Leon says he was out late one night in a rural part of Miami-Dade county when he noticed part of the python sticking out of the brush.

He stopped and decided to drag the snake out.

The extra long python began to wrap itself around Leon's leg. That's when he got a little help from others and his knife, which he used to kill the giant snake.

Researchers at the Florida Fish and Wildlife conservation commission were happy Leon safely caught and reported the record breaking snake.

Pythons  are an invasive species in the Florida Everglades.  Earlier this year, wildlife officials kicked off a Burmese python challenge -- aimed at cutting down their population and affect on the state's ecosystem.
