Court upholds 8-year prison sentence for Bulger's moll

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- A federal appeals court has upheld the 8-year prison term given to the longtime girlfriend of reputed mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger.

Catherine Greig pleaded guilty to conspiracy to harbor a fugitive and other charges after she and Bulger were captured in Santa Monica, Calif., bringing an end to their 16 years on the lam.

Greig's lawyer previously claimed her prison term is three times higher than the sentence she should have received.

"Greig takes issue with the sentence handed down, claiming a variety of errors on the district court's part," reads the decision handed down Friday. "After carefully considering the matter, we see no basis for disturbing the court's decision and affirm her sentence."

Bulger, the 83-year-old former leader of the Winter Hill Gang, is awaiting trial in June on charges of playing a role in 19 murders.
