Sheriff provides brief peek inside unit where Arias is held

PHOENIX -

Sheriff Joe Arpaio is responding to critics who said Jodi Arias has a "cushy" jail cell. He's giving the public a firsthand look at her living conditions.

Thursday, Arpaio opened up the housing unit where Arias is living as she awaits sentencing, providing a brief peek inside her cell at the Estrella Women's Facility.

He also gave insight on the daily routine behind bars for Arias and other female inmates -- noting that it's very similar to the prison conditions she'll soon experience after sentencing.

"I wouldn't want my reputation ruined or for the whole country to say I run a cushy jail," said Arpaio. "First of all it's not the Hilton Hotel, number two it's a tough system but it's fair."

Arpaio says since he's been sheriff, over 2 million inmates have come through the system, and he's taken away a lot of things from inmates.

He makes it tough in there so offenders won't want to come back.

Earlier this year, FOX 10's Troy Hayden provided viewers with an in-depth look at the conditions in Estrella Jail.
