Senate Democrats won't stall Medicaid debate

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Senate Minority Leader Leah Landrum Taylor says she doesn't want Democrats to reject a plan to expand Medicaid access if they don't get their way on other issues.

Landrum Taylor says Democrats are concerned about a number of measures being advanced by Republicans in the GOP-Legislature, but Medicaid remains their top priority.

Sen. Steve Gallardo earlier this week said he wanted Democrats to hold back on supporting Medicaid to ensure Republicans don't pass a divisive election bill. The proposed law would make it harder for voters to send in mail ballots or influence public policy.

Landrum Taylor says the election bill should be debated separately from the Medicaid expansion backed by Gov. Jan Brewer and opposed by some GOP leaders. Brewer needs Democrats to get the expansion through the Senate.
