Candidate says she's endorsed by Jesus

Posted: Updated:
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A Florida mayoral candidate is hoping a little divine intervention gets her ahead on Election Day.  That's because she says she has a very big endorsement, from Jesus Christ.

North Miami's race for mayor is making its way to the finish line.  Racial tension between the blossoming Haitian-American community and some white residents in Miami-Dade County's fifth largest city has long dominated headlines, but this year's contest comes with a religious dynamic for at least one candidate.

"Yes, I'm endorsed by Jesus," says Anna Pierre, "but I'm gonna be the mayor for all North Miami!"

Pierre, a nurse who says she will provide free health care and new jobs for her constituents, spells out her endorsement on campaign literature in big bold letters, complete with a picture.

"From the minute I applied, people starting giving me problems," she says, "asking me to leave the race."

The 54-year-old candidate has said a voodoo curse has plagued her run for mayor, a hex that she says came with chicken feathers and candles placed outside her office door.

Pierre isn't related to current out-going Mayor Andre Pierre.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
