Huntington Beach, CA -

(FOX 11 / AP) Southern California authorities say a man remains in critical condition after he was beaten nearly to death by skateboard-wielding attackers.

Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitchell O'Brien says the 25-year-old man suffered life-threatening head injuries during Friday night's attack and four teenagers could face attempted murder charges. All four are on probation for previous crimes.

O'Brien says the man and his girlfriend intervened in a fight between two groups at a crowded skate park.

The skateboarders then turned on the couple. O'Brien says the man was chased to a coin laundry across the street and beaten with skateboards.

O'Brian tells City News Service that four youths, ages 14 to 16, were booked at Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder and three others are being sought.

A Man beaten by skateboarders is from a well known adoptive family.

The mother of the man beaten by a mob of skateboarders talks to Fox 11 News. Turns out, they are a family very familiar to us. The mother is a Wednesday's Child adoptive parent.

The picture of Viktor Silcock in the hospital tells the horrific story. The 25-year old is "speaking a little bit" says his mother, but heavily sedated due to injuries after being beaten by a mob of skateboarders. There are tubes coming from his mouth and throat and bandages on his head. His mom says part of his skull was removed. Early reports had him fighting for his life. His mom, Ann Belles, says he is "doing better, but not out of the woods yet."

Four teenagers were arrested for attempted murder. The attack began Friday at Murdy Park in Huntington Beach. Police say it all started when two groups of skateboarders were fighting at the park.

Viktor's girlfriend says he'd just arrived and tried to intervene but the crowd turned on him. She says Viktor ran across the freeway to a laundromat where the group beat him with their skateboards.

Viktor's family is a well known adoptive family. His mother is a Wednesday's Child adoptive parent. She has adopted 59 children all with some sort of special needs. The family was even featured on 60-Minutes. While three of her children were adopted from Wednesday's Child, Viktor was adopted from Estonia. Belles says she is so proud of how far her son has come given his painful past and learning and language delays, citing his apartment with his girlfriend, as an example.

Belles says no one deserves to be beaten to near death and family is still in shock. The picture of Viktor Silcock in the hospital tells the horrific story.
