See the explosive device found by Tempe housekeeper

Posted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -

We are getting our first look at photos of the explosive devices that a Tempe high school student had in his home, released by Tempe Police.

A housekeeper working at the teen's house discovered the explosives and took them to the fire department.

18-year-old Joshua Prater, a senior at Marcos de Niza High School, was arrested.

The IED was made out of an empty CO2 cartridge, hobby fuse and was filled with a low explosive powder, match heads and fireworks. It meets the definition of an improvised explosive device, as defined under "misconduct involving weapons."

Police do not know what he was planning on doing with the explosives, but do not believe he was planning on detonating them at school.

Prater's parents apparently told police he learned how to make the bomb from his friends. Prater's next court date is May 15.
