Copper thieves do heavy damage to Atlanta church

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Members of a small Atlanta church are without a place to worship after thieves stripped the copper from the building, gutting its walls and ceilings and ripping out copper wires and pipes.

New Faith Full Gospel Church Pastor Beverly Kempson said the damage is so bad that the thieves might as well have burned the building down. She said it looks like someone took an ax to the church on Jonesboro Road on the city's south side.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/17VPQUc) that an usher who arrived first Sunday morning discovered the damage.

Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said no arrests have been made.

With no plumbing or electricity, Kempson said she and her husband do not know when or where the congregation's 50 members will meet.

Step through the doors of Hope's Land of Candy in Island Park, Long Island and you''ll be taking a trip back in time. There's no WIFI but they do have a Victrola piano. And then there's the candy.. lots and lots of it.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
