Savannah police to remember fallen officers

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Savannah-Chatham County police are preparing to remember fellow officers who have died in the line of duty since the Civil War.

Savannah police planned a ceremony for Wednesday, which is national Peace Officers Memorial Day. Police and local officials will gather along with family members of their fallen colleagues at the officers' memorial that stands outside police headquarters in downtown Savannah.

The ceremony will recognize 51 law enforcement officers in the Savannah area who have been killed in the line of duty since 1868.
