Mauled to death, a 63 year old Littlerock resident who was going out for her morning walk when four dogs attacked her on S Street. They also attacked the vehicle of a passerby who tried to help, and a deputy sheriff before they took off into the desert.

Investigators believe the four are among eight dogs confiscated from a nearby house, where the 29 year old resident was arrested. A pot growing operation was found in the house, as animal control was taking out the animals

"Nothing to say, they are really nice dogs" from visitors at the home who were not arrested. DNA from the animals' saliva will be matched to saliva on the victim's remains to confirm if any of the animals were involved.

The husband of the victim is too distraught to talk. Neighbors who do the same morning walk say loose dogs are a serious problem in the area.

(FOX 11/CNS) A woman was fatally mauled by pit bulls today while she was jogging in the Littlerock area near Palmdale, and sheriff's deputies were scouring the area in search of the dogs, authorities said.

The woman was attacked about 9:30 a.m. near 110th Street East and Avenue S, Los Angeles County fire Inspector Scott Miller.

Sheriff's deputies were searching for as many as four pit bulls that may have been involved in the attack. Officials warned residents to call 911 if they spotted the dogs.

The name of the woman was not immediately released, but local media reports indicate she was 63 years old.

The station also reported that residents have been afraid of wild dogs for some time and that about two weeks ago, a pack of dogs attacked a horse and a woman riding it.

Sheriff's Lt. John Corina says a witness saw four or five dogs attacking the woman this morning and honked to try and scare them away. Instead they tried to attack the witness car -- specifically trying to puncture the car's tires.

The first deputy on scene fired a shot at the dog from about 30 feet away, and the dog ran off into the desert.

The woman had severe injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich ordered county personnel to continue air and ground searches for the pit bulls and offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to their capture. The money will not come from public funds, Antonovich spokesman Tony Bell said.

The U.S. Open is underway in Queens and there's no denying that many of the players, both men and women, are in great physical shape and know how to play that up. Women are particularly promoted in the industry as attractive, fashionable and fiercely competitive. Does that help the game and draw more people in?
