Weekend Roundup: West Coast BBQ Classic & Get Fit And Raise Funds

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

 West Coast BBQ Classic

You can take Mom to the Queen Mary for the famous Sunday Champagne brunch on Mother's Day, but if you really want to eat like a mutha, you have to first check out the West Coast BBQ Classic on Saturday, May 11!! Taking place at the Queen Mary Events Park, this one-day BBQ showdown is where you can sample barbecue from 60 pit masters representing different styles from all around the country. LA's own Bigmista's BBQ will be among the competitors and Neil "Bigmista" Strawder (you recognize him from TV's "PitMasters" and from your local farmers' markets) aims to win with his "slow and low" barbecue. There will also be live music like Augie's Side Effect as well as adult backyard games, a kids zone, watermelon and peach cobbler eating contest and more. Get ready for a day of finger lickin' family fun!

Get Fit & Raise Funds at Spectrum

If you want to give Mom a day of fun and fitness for Mother's Day, why not hit the gym this weekend? Not only will you get to spend time with the woman who gave you life, but you can also improve the lives of others just by working up a sweat and having a good time. Spectrum Athletic Clubs is opening its doors at each of its 12 locations throughout Southern California with special classes and fitness sessions offered for $25 as well as a silent auction of sports memorabilia. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Augie's Quest, the Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS research initiative.
