Huntington Park, CA -

(CNS) The Huntington Park Police Department today released photos of a man and woman believed to have been responsible for an attack on a 57-year-old taxi driver.

On April 27 at 2:30 a.m. a man and a woman flagged down the taxi north of Leonardo's Night Club at 6617 Wilson Avenue and asked to be taken to Adams Street in Los Angeles, according to Detective Miguel Navia of the Huntington Park Police Department.

As the taxi driver went north on Alameda Street, the woman allegedly became irate and began shouting profanities, according to Navia. At Gage Avenue and Alameda Street, the driver pulled over and refused to provide further service to the couple, Navia said.

He opened the door for them, and they brutally attacked the driver, according to Navia.

The driver spent several days in a hospital and is now further recovering at home, according to Navia.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
