Bucks Co.Residents Grill Officials Over Sex Offender Treatment Center

Posted: Updated:
HULMEVILLE, Pa. -

Hulmesville Borough committee members got an earful from dozens of residents in a standing-room only meeting about a treatment facility for sexually violent predators operating since July of 2012.

Most residents say they were never told about the Resources for Human Development facility taking up office space in an unmarked building with blinds down, across the street from several homes where children live and play.

"Now that you guys slipped up its on you," said David Goodman to the council.  He lives close to the site on Reetz Avenue.

"By letting bus loads of new convicts come in to have treatment in the middle of our neighborhood, don't you think we're just asking for trouble?" another resident said to the board.

Community members say it should be moved to an industrial complex of some kind, away from areas with children.  Board members say they are working with the operator to address concerns but confirmed it has been doing business without a borough permit.

However, that doesn't mean it could be shut down so easily.

"We're really looking at the ordinance with a fine tooth comb trying to find an avenue of whether they can stay or can't stay," a committee member said.

Borough police say they will boost patrols on Wednesdays and Thursdays when the treatment center sees the most clients.

No one answered at the facility when we knocked for comment and our calls were not returned to their regional offices in Philadelphia.
