CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Arlington Heights Police say a 38 year old reported gunman prompted an evacuation at the apartment building at 151 West Wing Street.

Police tell FOX 32's Tisha Lewis the reported gunman's mother called police Saturday afternoon saying her son didn't feel well and believed a gun was inside the home.

The suspect was placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Snipers and heavily armed officers filled the streets in Downtown Arlington Heights by Saturday night. Residents say the hostage situation inside the 6th floor apartment led to a forced evacuation.

Police tell FOX 32 News the situation has been resolved and that the person they needed to talk to, they did.

The reports of shots fired prompted SWAT team and dozens of police officers to flood the area. Out of fear residents took shelter in nearby restaurants. They say they were stuck outside for nearly three hours.

No injuries were reported.
