Race Director Talks Extra Security For Broad Street Run

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The Broad Street Run is this weekend, and security will be tight as tens of thousands of runners race 10 miles through the city.

But what exactly will those security measures include?

For starters, there will be more police and emergency personnel than usual, and backpacks aren't allowed. Runners will have to use clear plastic bags.

Race director Jim Marino joined "Good Day" in the newsroom Friday morning to talk more about the extra security measures.

Those include:

  • No backpacks, bags or coolers in the Navy Yard;
  • Runners who check gear must place in clear bags expo at Lincoln Financial Field;
  • Evacuation shelters along race are available to runner and spectators;
  • And runners can sign up to receive emergency text alerts.

You can sign up to receive emergency text alerts in MyFOXPhilly.com's "Seen on TV" section, or click right here.

Officials say there are no specific threats for the event, but they're not taking any chances.
