Ark. tampon maker sues recycler, says product sold

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Kimberly-Clark Corp. claims in a lawsuit that a recycler sold defective feminine hygiene products made at its Conway factory instead of destroying them as agreed.

A spokesman for Dallas-based Kimberly-Clark said Thursday that it found improperly made tampons for sale on the Internet. The company says it had an agreement with Austin, Texas-based Balcones Recycling to destroy the items but found them for sale on the Internet.

Balcones told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette the allegations were incorrect and that it would fight the lawsuit. Balcones has a facility in Little Rock, where Kimberly-Clark says the defective products were sent.

Kimberly-Clark claims in the suit filed in Little Rock federal court that it spent $2.4 million to recall the products.
