CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are warning Chicago Lawn neighborhood residents of a recent increase in robberies and carjackings last month on the Southwest Side.

The robber approaches the victims with a handgun and steals their property or vehicles while others act as a lookout, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The first robbery happened about 1:25 a.m. April 7 in the 6100 block of South Campbell Avenue, police said. More recent robberies happened about 8 a.m. April 27 in the 6100 block of South Artesian Avenue and 3:10 a.m. in the 2200 block of West 63rd Street.

The robbers are described as two or three black men between 18 and 24 years old, police said. They are 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-8 and 160 to 190 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
