NOGALES, Ariz. -

In three separate incidents Tuesday, Border Patrol agents apprehended two juveniles and one adult trying to smuggle drugs into the country.

Agents at the I-19 checkpoint in Nogales referred three commercial shuttles for secondary inspection.

There, canine teams alerted to two 17-year-old U.S. citizens and one adult female Mexican National.

In each separate case, the suspects had taped heroin to their bodies, around the waistband.

The narcotics weigh a combined 9.5 pounds and are worth $100,440. The heroin was transferred to the DEA.

The teens were turned over to the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office, and the adult is facing prosecution.

In the past few years, Border Patrol agents have seen an increase in young adults and teens attempting to smuggle aliens and narcotics.
