Fort Benning soldier found fatally shot in Ala.

SEALE, Ala. (AP) - Sheriff's officials say a Fort Benning soldier has been fatally shot and was found in a ditch.

Authorities say 34-year-old Staff Sgt. Donald LaShon Wilson was found dead early Monday morning. Wilson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is being taken to Montgomery for an autopsy. Authorities say Wilson's body was found in Seale, Ala. - about 20 miles west of Fort Benning.

Phenix City police say they found Wilson's Mercury Marquis on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Fort Benning officials have told investigators that Wilson was slated to be promoted to sergeant first class.

Police have not identified any suspects and are unsure of the circumstances surrounding Wilson's death.

    Authorities on Long Island are asking for the public's help in finding a forklift thief.  The bright yellow vehicle went missing Monday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. from its parking spot near a building in Riverhead. One or more people used a flatbed tow truck with a white cab to remove the Caterpillar forklift. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
