ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) -

Consumers Energy crews were working to repair a broken gas line in the area of Coolidge Highway and 13 Mile Road Friday.

Consumers Energy spokesperson Debra Dodd say crews were able to shut off the gas around 10:35 a.m. after an Oakland County construction crew ruptured the 2-inch line earlier in the day.

Nearby residents tell FOX 2's Roop Raj they were concerned since the leak took place less than a mile away from where another gas leak caused a home explosion that left one man dead back in February.

But Dodd says the two leaks are not similar. "Any gas leak is a serious situation to us. But I certainly understand the concern of nearby residents and we responded promptly and the gas was venting into the atmosphere, which is exactly what we want to have happen in this situation."

Fire crews remained on the scene of noon while crews worked to repair the line.
