Weekend Roundup: Latin Rhythms, Street Faires & Drinks 2 Boston

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

Los Amigos Invisibles

Start with some tasty Latin rhythms, throw in a fistful of fiery funk, a dash of disco, a pinch of quirky retro lounge music, plus a whole lot of fun and what do you get? Los Amigos Invisibles, one of the biggest bands in the Latin alternative scene. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela and now based in New York City, the Grammy-winning group is celebrating the release of their seventh studio album, "Repeat After Me," with a worldwide tour. You have one chance to catch their high-energy show in LA this Friday 4/26 at the Fonda Theatre. It's gonna be a party!

Uptown Whittier Street Faire

Hear ye! Hear ye! The 18th Annual Uptown Whittier Spring Antique Street Faire is your invitation to stroll the cobblestone streets of this adorable neighborhood and browse merch from more than 90 vendors offering antiques, vintage and contemporary fashion from local shops like Basement 6745 and Melrose Vintage, fab looks from Marinello School of Beauty, collectibles, jewelry, art, furniture, glassware and so much more. (Perfect for Mother's Day, just saying.) You can also enjoy food at the area's 50+ restaurant and live entertainment by the talented dancers of Memories Swing Team. The fun goes on Saturday, April 27 from 9 am-4 pm and is free to the public.

There are so many cool things going on, I just can't fit them all on the show! Here are my bonus picks you need to know about now:

Paris Photo LA @ Paramount Studios
Thursday, April 25 - Sunday, April 28

This huge art and photography fair happens in Paris every November and now it's heading to Paramount Studios right here in LA. It's your chance to check out some of the most visually exciting, edgy and emotionally driven works of photographic art, not to mention you'll actually get to walk through some of Paramount's legendary sound stages and New York Street Backlot. You can also expect music and, of course, food trucks. (This is LA, not Paris, after all!)

Classic Slam @ Orpheum Theatre
Saturday, April 27; 7:30 pm-10 pm

Got poetry? Held every April during National Poetry Month, the Classic Slam is when students from more than 22 LA County schools face off to "slam" the most prolific poems in the world. Judges this year include best-selling author Marianne Williamson and actor/director (and "Reading Rainbow" guy!) LeVar Burton. The event is hosted by Get Lit, a non-profit presenter of literary performance, education and teen poetry programs.

Taste of the Eastside @ Barnsdall Park
Sunday, April 28; 1 pm-5 pm

This food and drink festival showcases the evolving and diverse food scene of LA's Eastside neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Echo Park, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Los Feliz, Atwater and beyond. Your ticket gets you tasting samples from more than 30 restaurants and access to the Garden Bar on the lawn. There will be plenty of kids' activities, music by some of LA's best DJs and all the hipsters you can handle. The best part: all proceeds from the event go to support local non-profits.

Fiesta Broadway
Sunday, April 28; 11 am-6 pm

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo a week early at Fiesta Broadway, the largest Latino festival in the world! This year the big party is sponsored by Mundo Fox and will take up 12 square blocks of Downtown LA along Broadway from Temple to 5th Street. Join 500,000 of your closest friends and enjoy multiple stages with live music, countless vendor booths with food and lots of fun. Admission is free.
