Jimmy McMillan running for mayor

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Jimmy McMillan became an Internet sensation when he ran for governor more than two years ago. His platform was and still is: "The rent is too damn high. I say the rent is too damn high."

The Lower East Side resident now has his sights set on City Hall.

We caught up with McMillan in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. While I was interviewing him, people were driving by and yelling out that they were voting for him.

McMillan is a registered Republican but he says his party isn't taking him seriously. So he is once again turning to voters. He wants to put the spotlight on issues that average New Yorker's struggle with food, housing and education.

McMillan says he is currently facing eviction from his apartment on the Lower East Side. He is fighting it in housing court. So he says he knows first-hand how difficult it is to live in the city.
