OAK PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

Oak Park police responded to Forgotten Harvest after the call came in that a car belonging to a student volunteer was missing.

"The receptionist behind the desk even said, 'Well, she had the key, and she hit the alarm.'  So they watched her open the young lady's car and get in it," Shariece Cooper explained.

Cooper is a member of the student government at Bradford Academy High School.  The whole student government was volunteering as part of a service project.  They put all of their belongings in one car.  Cooper said they were all just following directions.

"I feel violated because my prom stuff was in that purse.... My phone, my wallet, my I.D., my money, it was in the purse," she said.  "Whoever stole it had to go through the pockets of the stuff that was in the building to get the keys to get into the car with our stuff."

Students believe that the thief was a volunteer.  The doors to Forgotten Harvest are locked.  Even Fox 2 has to be buzzed into the building.

Susan Goodall with Forgotten Harvest said the nonprofit is cooperating with police.

"I am deeply distressed that something like this would happen in an organization that works so hard to do good in the community.  I mean, it's unconceivable that it would happen anywhere, but that it would happen in a place like this is just unconscionable," she said.

Police said the car was later located at a house in Detroit and a suspect was arrested.  The students will be getting their belongings back.
